History
The pioneers of the Friends for Black Literature, Research, Culture, & the Arts
The Friends of Black Literature, Research, Culture, and the Arts (FBLRCA) was founded in
2023 by a group of educators, writers, literary professionals, and community advocates who
wanted to develop a nonprofit that would support the literary, arts, cultural, and educational
community. Its goal is to sponsor and develop programs that meet the needs of organizations
that support writers, artists, performers, cultural workers, and researchers in communities
throughout the African diaspora. FBLRCA also supports individuals whose goals align with its
mission.
We are grateful to writer and cultural historian, Dr. Glenda R. Taylor who spearheaded the
founding of the Friends of Black Literature, Research, Culture, and the Arts, Inc. before her
passing in 2023.
