About the event

The Committee for Liberation through Literacy and the Friends of Black Literature, Research, Culture, and the Arts presents a forum on collaborative models for fostering literacy in the Black Community. Rooted in civic education, social justice, leadership for liberation, and literacy skill building, this forum will provide models for empowering students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to advocate for themselves and their communities while advancing their literacy skills, promoting social-emotional learning, and developing communal literacy practices through creative writing, poetry, playwriting, performance, and imaginative play.

Attendees will hear from speakers who have developed programs in these areas and will participate in a workshop where they will share successful models of collaborations. They will come away from the forum with a toolkit that contains resources and identifies models that can be shared within their community.
